CRA Waterloo Donates to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region
CRA employees in Waterloo have been graciously donating to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region for many years. Donations are often generated through fundraising programs and competitions. In past years, CRA's Shareholders have shaved their heads, had makeovers to look like hippies from the 60s, and even ridden a mechanical bull. This year, Shareholders raced in food-inspired costumes. This year's race and BBQ brought in over $8,000.
During the two weeks surrounding the Canadian Thanksgiving, CRA staff not only gave money but also volunteered their time to peel potatoes or serve food at the local soup kitchen (St. John Soup Kitchen), which serves between 350 and 500 people each day.
The other big part of CRA Waterloo's food drive each year is a competition between the buildings to bring in the Food Bank's most needed items. This year, the donated food items tipped the scales at 11,064 pounds.
To capitalize on CRA's creative ideas for raising money, the Food Bank asked CRA to participate in special Lunch and Learn sessions to share these ideas with other organizations doing food drives.
