Property and Brownfield Redevelopment

There is growing recognition of the need for stewardship of environmentally challenged properties through redevelopment for alternative uses.  CRA is a world leader in transforming abandoned, idle, or underutilized industrial and commercial property ("brownfields") into beneficial end uses. For more than 30 years, our engineering services have assisted clients in reusing contaminated sites for maximum beneficial use. The successful reclamation of these sites transforms liabilities into opportunities and underscores the environmental, economic, and social benefits to society by reducing the development of prime agricultural land and other greenfields.

Successful redevelopment projects integrate economic viability, environmental responsibility, and social responsibility. Often, the biggest challenge to the redevelopment of underutilized and environmentally challenged properties is economic viability. CRA has played a key role in developing economically viable approaches to property redevelopment, including comprehensive site-specific risk assessments and environmentally responsible yet cost-effective strategic remediation and development plans. We are effective in negotiating acceptance of proposed solutions and securing funding with the appropriate governmental and regulatory agencies. Our services include:

  • Phase I and II Environmental Assessments
  • Ecological Site Assessments
  • Risk Assessments
  • Facility Decommissioning and Demolition
  • Alternative Redevelopment Strategies Assessment
  • Redevelopment Funding Opportunities Review (Available Public Sector Grants and Low Interest Loans)
  • Remedial Action Plan Development and Implementation
  • Site Reclamation and Rehabilitation (Surface Water, Sediment, Wetlands)
  • Environmental Liability Transfer Mechanisms
